Kuala Lumpur needs to adopt a gender-based data collection and analysis within its policies, programs and services to understand and mitigate the varying discrimination faced by women and girls in the city. To date, the city hall‘s gender equality goals are indirectly achieved through collaboration with other organizations such as ThinkTanks, Federal agencies and NGOs with these external parties taking the lead.

  • IP1.6AImprove entrepreneurial opportunities for all, including women, homemakers, single mothers, B40 groups, and people with disabilities in neighborhood areas.
  • IP2.3Expand business opportunities in the informal sector for homemakers and the B40 group
  • IS1.4Intensity the regeneration and improvement activities of old established housing areas to meet the changes of resident profile
  • IS2.5Ensure that neighborhood development is inclusive and safe, taking into account residents age, gender, background and physical ability

Malaysia Targets

  • Increasing women's participation in decision-making positions in the public and private sectors to at least 30% by 2025.
  • Eliminating gender-based violence and discrimination in all its forms, including in the workplace, by 2030.
  • Closing the gender pay gap and achieving equal pay for work of equal value by 2030.
  • Providing universal access to sexual and reproductive health services and rights by 2030.
