End Hunger, Achieve Food Security and Improved Sustainable Agriculture

  • Hunger and poverty eradication
  • Improved nutrition

Food insecurity in Kuala Lumpur, which is linked to household income, disproportionately affects vulnerable groups during crises exacerbated by global supply chain disruptions and price inflation, prompting government and non-profit programs to alleviate the impact and achieve SDG 2 targets for year-round access to safe and nutritious food.

Kuala Lumpur Overview SDG 2

Food insecurity can still exist in Kuala Lumpur despite sufficient domestic food production and access to international markets; however, continuous efforts by government agencies and partners, such as community and private urban farming, community food banks, and effective transport and logistics support, aim to ensure access to safe and nutritious food for all. In an effort to generate accessible produce and contribute to the city's green spaces, a project led by city resident groups and the City Planning Department aims to transform underutilized land near residential areas into community-based agriculture.
