Ridge View Residential College in NUS :  Student Fieldtrip to West Malaysia

Culture and Sustainability in Southeast Asia

The course aims to help students learn about Southeast Asia’s diverse cultures and sustainability challenges, particularly in the context of Malaysia which presents a rich context to explore the concepts, practices, and issues in preserving the region’s cultural and natural heritage while pursuing economic and social development. Through the course, the students will critically examine the relevance of culture as the fourth pillar of sustainable development, alongside economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental conservation.

As part of the course, students will attend 6 pre-trip seminars and a 10-day study trip to West Malaysia to connect classroom learning with field experiences to help our students develop an appreciation of the different ways in which diverse communities interact with nature and recognise the need for the localisation of sustainable development.
