In December 2021, a group of volunteers from BikeCommuteKL started organizing Bike Kitchens in TTDI.
Bike Kitchens are community-run repair workshops that create a space for people to come together and make bicycling more accessible. Our aim is to build a cycling culture within the TTDI neighborhood and connected areas by supporting more people to shift their behaviour and provide the skills and resources needed to become a utility cyclist.
Last Sunday, during our 5th kitchen we worked with MRT Corporation Sdn Bhd with support from Local Agenda 21 Kuala Lumpur DBKL and organised the Bike Kitchen at the MRT TTDI station. It was great to have people access the event by bringing their bicycles on the train to join us.
At the end of the session, we organise a short group ride to share bike riding etiquette, safe navigation and bicycle parking. We hope to showcase what a cycling culture in Malaysian cities could look like, and how sustainable transportation can lead to more equitable and friendly urban environments.
If you'd to participate and volunteer at future kitchens and events, do sign up to our mailing list! https://bikecommutekl.org
