The Gross Pollutant Traps (GPTs) in Kuala Lumpur Programme is an initiative aimed at reducing the amount of solid waste and pollutants that enter waterways in the city. The programme involves the installation and maintenance of GPTs in strategic locations, such as stormwater drains and rivers, which capture and remove large debris and pollutants, such as plastics, oil, and sediment, before they enter the waterways. By reducing the amount of pollutants that enter waterways, the programme aims to improve the water quality and protect the health of aquatic ecosystems. Additionally, the programme promotes public awareness of the importance of responsible waste management and encourages individuals to take action towards reducing their environmental impact. Through the Gross Pollutant Traps in Kuala Lumpur Programme, the city is taking steps towards creating a cleaner and more sustainable environment for its residents and visitors. The initiative aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation and SDG 14: Life Below Water, by promoting responsible water resource management and protecting the health of aquatic ecosystems.
