SUMMARY:Latihan Dalam Perkhidmatan (LADAP) by SDG Centre KL
DESCRIPTION:LADAP "Latihan Dalam Perkhidmatan" at SMK LaSalle Brickfields\, Kuala Lumpur \nDetails of Activities: \n- Introduction to SDG's \n- The World We're In \n- From Waste to Wealth \nThis programme is specifically catered to teachers and school administrators to gain knowledge on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as it relates globally as well as locally. The participants also are given pop quizes to test their knowledge throughout the programme. The highlight of the programme is a hands on activity where participants are tasked to work in groups to problem solve some of their issues faced in school such as waste\, cleanliness and health utilizing recycled items. As such the participants then can adopt their own solutions and apply in their schools culminating in a better understanding of how each one of the SDG's are used and applied. \nThis programme was initiated by the SMK LaSalle Brickfields administration in order to activate their Latihan Dalam Perkhidmatan which is a requirement by the Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia. LADAP for short is made compulsory by KPM as is done at least 4 times a year and attended by all teachers from every school. \nWe at the SDG Centre KL took on the challenge to engage with the teachers and get to know some of their problems related to sustainable practices in school and how the SDG's could be adopted. As such we promoted a few activities beyond simple knowledge-based information. Thus the Waste to Wealth activity was proposed as a means to engage and promote developmental exercises through problem solving and critical thinking. \nParticipants were tasked to list down a few of the issues faced in school. Some of the problems chosen related to waste\, food and wellbeing of teachers. From there they discussed and picked out several recyclable items to mock up a prototype with the idea to solve and find solutions to their initial problems. The results were amazing as the teachers came up with : \n\nDust bins & Larger Recycle bins to be manufactured by Recycling empty bottles\, binding them together to make cylindrical containers of varying sizes\nSeed to Veggie and composting containers using egg cartons\, plastic ties (from one time use of 'air bungkus') to be hung to obtain optimal sunlight and growth\n'Piggy' Bank for Classrooms to instill importance of saving early on and also the 'swear jar' concept when students swear\, they will put in 20-50 cents\nStationary Organizer utilizing empty cans\, cleaned and filed down to minimize cuts\, and can be used for stationary in classrooms or teachers lounge
